How to make an online game about a dead guy
Posted October 27, 2018 08:17:11 It was a Sunday in late October, and Chris and I were both out at a pub near our hometown of Dayton, Ohio, to have a late-night game of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” with a few friends.
I’d been working on an online RPG for about a year, and I was eager to try something new.
But my brain wasn’t ready to handle the task of making an online-focused video game.
As Chris told me in a Skype call, I needed a little more help than he did, and so he had me play some “Call Of Duty: Black Ops II” online.
“I thought it would be cool to make a video game about Black Ops 2,” Chris told the group.
“But it turned out I wasn’t too good at it.”
I played “Call” for about five minutes, then turned to Chris, “What’s your favorite part of playing ‘Call of War’?
And what’s your least favorite part?”
He said it was “the fact that the game can’t be played with a mouse, and you have to use the mouse on a keyboard.”
He told me he didn’t like the controls at all, but he didn, either, because “I love that you can move around, shoot enemies, and just move around.”
I asked him what he would have liked to see added to the game, and he mentioned a few features like having to play through missions in order to unlock weapons and gear.
I asked what he wanted me to do to make it better, and then he asked, “Are you serious?
You’re not gonna be able to play this game for a month and not play anything?”
I told him I wasn`t interested in making a game about it, but I wanted to play the game.
“Then why are you telling me to play it for a year?”
I wanted him to see what was going on.
I said I would play “Call,” but I didn’t know how to play.
I wanted something that was “fun.”
And he seemed genuinely interested in the idea.
“We’re gonna make a multiplayer game for Call of Duty,” Chris said.
“And then we’re gonna add a story mode that’s gonna be really cool.
We’ll see how that goes.”
We played for a bit, and after a while Chris told us we could go ahead and start the game and see what happened.
We did a couple of rounds and then went to bed.
I went to sleep the next morning and woke up a few hours later to a message saying, “Chris, I’ve made a new game that I want to show you.”
I was blown away by what he had made.
The “Call-of-duty” game Chris was working on had just been announced as a “multiplayer game.”
It would be available to everyone, free of charge, on Steam and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and was set to launch on September 21, 2019.
Chris told Polygon that he had wanted to make this game since “almost the beginning.”
He was excited about “the potential of this game,” and he thought it was something that would “go beyond what we have done before.”
I sat down with Chris, and we discussed what made this game so unique, how the game would evolve over time, and what he thought the potential for this game was.
What follows is a transcript of that conversation.
So how did you get started on this project?
Chris: The first game I ever made was called “Call The Commander.”
It was basically an RPG that was based on a game called “Warhammer 40,000.”
I’ve always liked video games.
I think that it`s kind of a cool medium.
And I thought it’d be cool if we could do a game that was more like “Warriors.”
I thought “Call the Commander” was a really cool idea, and that was the first game that we ever made.
I really wanted to create something like that, and to have someone like that on the team really helped me.
I knew I wanted a game like that.
I was in my early 20s, and it was a time when I wasnʼt really interested in games.
So I had been playing “Call and Destroy” for a few years, and the first one that I played was “Call And Destroy II” for Nintendo 64, which was kind of like the first “Call game.”
And I liked that.
So when I got the chance to work on “Call”, I was just really excited.
I had a lot of fun with it, and now I really want to make something like “Call.”
So I started working on “War” with Chris in 2013, and “War was my first big project, and at that point, I had already started to think about doing something different with my life.
